PHILIPPINIAN RENEWABLES 2 GW

ENERDATA13 May 2022 - The Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) plans to hold the first round of bidding for 2,000 MW of renewable capacity under the Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP) on 17 June 2022. The country aims to award 1,260 MW of solar capacity (900 MW in Luzon, 260 MW in the Visayas and 100 MW in Mindanao), 380 MW of wind (360 MW in Luzon and 20 MW in the Visayas), and 230 MW of biomass (120 MW in the Visayas, 60 MW in Luzon and 50 MW in Mindanao) and 130 MW of hydropower (80 MW in Luzon and 50 MW in Mindanao). The proposed tariff for solar technology has been set at PHP3.6248/kWh (US$6.9c/kWh); wind at PHP5.2887/kWh (US$10c/kWh); biomass at PHP5.5480/kWh (US$10.6c/kWh); and run-of-river hydro at PHP5.8705/kWh (US$11.2c/kWh).

The Philippines has an installed capacity of 26.8 GW (end-2021), with 41% of coal, 17% of oil, 14% of hydro and 13% of gas. The share of renewables has been rising in recent years, with solar now accounting for 5% of the installed capacity and wind for 2%.
