BRAZILIAN WIND ENERGY 5 GW

BRAZILIAN WIND ENERGY 5 GW

ENERDATA14 Jun 2022 - Corio Generation, a portfolio company of Macquarie Green Investment Group launched in 2022, plans to develop five offshore wind projects in Brazil ranging from about 500 MW to over 1.2 GW in installed capacity and totalling more than 5 GW. Corio will develop those projects in partnership with the Brazilian power generation company Servtec and aims to apply for leases for the five fixed-bottom projects in the country’s north-eastern, south-eastern and southern maritime areas. Three offshore wind projects should exceed 1,200 MW - Costa Nordeste Offshore, off the North-east coast of Brazil, Guarita Offshore, and Cassino Offshore, both off the South coast - while a 1,170 MW project should be built off the south coast (Rio Grande Offshore); Corio also plans a 495 MW offshore wind project off the south-east coast of Brazil, named Vitoria Offshore. Just days prior to this announcement, Corio announced plans to build a 2.5 GW offshore wind farm in southern Australia. The company now has a wind development portfolio that surpasses 20 GW.

Brazil does not yet possess offshore wind capacities (but 20.8 GW for onshore wind in 2021) but several other offshore wind projects are currently planned in the country.
