CHINA'S LNG TERMINAL 6 MT/YEAR
ENERDATA- 14 Jun 2022 - The Chinese state-owned power generation company China Huadian expects to start the construction of the upcoming 6 Mt/year Ganyu LNG terminal in the Jiangsu province (eastern China) in the second half of 2022, and to commission the import facility by 2026. The CNY6.4bn (US$957m) project was recently approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), China's highest planning body.
The Ganyu LNG terminal is jointly owned by China Huadian Jiangsu Energy, Lianyungang Port Group, Prism Energy International, JERA Power International (the joint venture of Chubu Electric and TEPCO) and BP. It is expected to become Jiangsu’s major LNG terminal base and to ensure gas supply in the province and along the Yangtze River delta region.
Jiangsu’s installed capacity for gas-fired power generation exceeded 13 GW in 2021, making it China’s second-largest province for gas-fired power generation (49.5 GW for the country as a whole). Amidst a growing demand in 2021, China signed term contracts for 22.7 Mt of LNG (six times more than in 2020) aimed at boosting imports.
