INDIAN WIND ENERGY 12 GW
ENERDATA- 13 Jun 2022 - India will hold bid rounds for 12 GW of offshore wind capacity in the next three years (2022-2024). The first bid, for leasing out 4 GW of offshore wind energy blocks in the Tamil Nadu state, will be issued in the coming 3-4 months (by October 2022). Two further 4 GW bids will be issued in 2023 and 2024 for projects in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. Subsequently, 5 GW bids will be issued every year for a period of five years (2025 to 2030). The bidding for the first 12 GW will be conducted on a single stage two-envelope model, where the bidders will be evaluated based on their techno-commercial capabilities, and only the technically qualified bidders will proceed to financial evaluation.
India does not currently possess offshore wind capacities but plans to reach a 30 GW capacity by 2030. Onshore wind capacity, on the other hand, amounted to 40 GW in 2021 (9% of the country’s capacity).
