NORWEGIAN GAS SUPPLY WILL UP
ENERDATA - 27 Jun 2022 - The European Union and Norway have agreed to increase natural gas supply from Norway to EU member states by about 100 TWh in 2022. Norway has increased its natural gas production in response to the shortages in Europe, due to a continued reduced flow from Russia. Norway expects its sales to rise by 8% to 122 bcm this year, which would equate to an additional 100 TWh of supply destined to the EU.
In 2020, the EU sourced 19% of its gas imports from Norway, compared to 39% from Russia. To reach its climate change objectives, the EU expects its gas demand to drop by 30% by 2030 and has urged members to use renewables and energy efficiency measures to replace Russian gas. Faced with a reduced flow, some member states like Germany and the Netherlands have resorted to temporarily return to coal-fired power generation.
