RUSSIAN NUCLEAR FOR MYANMAR

RUSSIAN NUCLEAR FOR MYANMAR

N - 8 September 2022 - Rosatom and Myanmar’s Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Electrification have signed a Roadmap on cooperation in the field of the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes for 2022-2023 on the sidelines of the VII Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. The document was signed by Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev, Myanmar Minister of Science and Technology Myo Thein Zhuo and Myanmar Minister of Electrification Taung Khan, in the presence of the Chairman of the State Administrative Council, Prime Minister of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlain.

The roadmap sets out specific steps to further build Russian-Myanmar cooperation in the nuclear sector. In particular, the document provides for the expansion of the bilateral regulatory framework, the possible implementation of a nuclear power plant project with low-power reactors in Myanmar, as well as the training of personnel and the development of a positive public opinion regarding nuclear energy in Myanmar. This followed a series of memoranda of understanding signed in Moscow in July.
