GERMAN WIND ENERGY 7 GW
ENERDATA - 2 Feb 2023 - Germany’s Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has launched an auction for four new offshore wind sites totalling a capacity of 7 GW. Three sites, each with a capacity of 2 GW, are located in the North Sea and one area, with a capacity of 1 GW, is in the Baltic Sea. The North Sea sites are located about 120km north-west of Helgoland, and the Baltic Sea zone is about 25km off the island of Rügen.
The auction will be held using a dynamic bidding process, where bids as low as €0c/kWh will be considered. If multiple bids are tied for the lowest value, the bidder with the greatest willingness to pay will secure the area.
Bids need to be submitted by 1 June 2023, and the awarded developers will be required to carry out preliminary investigations before construction. The commissioning of the offshore wind projects resulting from the tender is scheduled for 2030.
Germany targets 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030. The country had 7.7 GW of offshore wind installed capacity at the end of 2021.
