SOLAR FOR INDIA: 6 GW

ENERDATA26 September 2024 - India’s Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has authorised the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution (MSEDCL) to procure an additional 5,991 MW of solar capacity through competitive bidding. The procurement will be split into two categories, with 5,745 MW under open tender and 246 MW under cluster tender.

MERC has set a ceiling tariff of INR3.10/kWh (US$3c/kWh) for these tenders. The competitive bidding will be conducted through MSEB Solar Agro Power (MSAPL), a subsidiary of MSEB Holding Company.

At the end of 2023, solar and wind accounted for nearly 24% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 73 GW and 45 GW, while hydropower capacity reached nearly 52 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW.
