RUSSIA, IAEA NUCLEAR COOPERATION

IAEA - Nov 6, 2024 - The IAEA has redesignated Rosatom Technical Academy (Rosatom Tech) as an IAEA Collaborating Centre, signing a new four-year agreement that expands the scope of their collaboration during the recent IAEA International Conference on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and their Applications.

IAEA Collaborating Centres are typically universities, research institutes, or other specialized organizations that work with the Agency to advance nuclear science, technology, and applications in various fields, including energy, health, agriculture, and environmental protection. By leveraging the expertise and resources of such Centres, the IAEA fosters innovation, research and capacity-building in Member States.

The new agreement with Rosatom Tech aims to enhance IAEA support to Member States in the area of small modular reactors (SMRs), medical physics and radiopharmaceuticals, in addition to covering ongoing areas of cooperation such as personnel training and competence building across various fields such as nuclear knowledge management, human resources development, nuclear sciences and applications, and nuclear security.

“I am confident that our extended cooperation will continue to yield great results in nuclear science, safety and technology,” said Mikhail Chudakov, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Nuclear Energy.

Since becoming an IAEA Collaborating Centre in 2019, Rosatom Tech has organized over 80 international events and trained more than 1500 students from around the world. “The signed agreement is a recognition of our training quality, confirming the effectiveness of our programmes for specialists in the evolving nuclear industry,” said Yuri Seleznev, Rector of Rosatom Tech.
