INDIA'S SOLAR POWER 3 GW

INDIA'S SOLAR POWER 3 GW

ENERDATA19 JUNE 2024 - The State Government of Rajasthan (western India) has allocated land for the development of nearly 3 GW of solar capacity. The State allocated 4,780 hectares of land to the Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company to build three solar parks in the Bikaner district, which will have a combined capacity of 2.45 GW (two 1,000 MW parks and a 450 MW park). In addition, NTPC Renewable Energy was awarded 910 hectares for a 500 MW solar project in the Phalodi district. The completion of these projects is scheduled for 2026, with the state government offering a 33% subsidy to support their development.

At the end of 2023, solar and wind accounted for nearly 24% of installed capacity in India, with respectively 73 GW and 45 GW, while hydropower capacity reached nearly 52 GW. India plans to increase its non-fossil fuel capacity to 500 GW. In 2023, coal still represented 53% of India’s capacity with over 265 GW and 72% of its power generation with 1,347 TWh.

INDIA NEED COAL ENERGY
India is already exploring coal gasification, for which it is setting aside 85 billion rupees ($1 billion) in subsidies to help get projects off the ground. The early-stage technology, which turns coal into gas to generate electricity, results in marginally lower emissions compared to conventional coal firing.
