AUSTRALIA NEED COAL

AUSTRALIA NEED COAL

ENERDATA - 13 October 2025 - The state government of Queensland (Australia) has unveiled its energy roadmap, announcing its plans to keep state-owned coal-fired power plants running until at least 2046. The five-year plan details that all coal units will reset their technical life span and end date, since they were previously expected to close by 2035 despite their condition.

Queensland also plans to repeal the previous government’s legislated renewable energy targets regarding renewable’s share on the power-mix (50% by 2030, 70% by 2032, and 80% by 2035), while keeping its commitment to cut emissions by 75% by 2035, and achieve net zero by 2050.
