AUSTRALIA'S HYDROGEN INVESTMENT $1.3 BLN

AUSTRALIA'S HYDROGEN INVESTMENT $1.3 BLN

ENERDATA - 13 October 2025 - The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has opened the second round of its Hydrogen Headstart Program. The program expects to allocate up to AUD2bn (US$1.3bn) in funding to accelerate the development of large-scale renewable hydrogen projects across Australia. The tender plans to prioritise projects with high priority use cases (including hydrogen for green ammonia, iron and steel, alumina, and long-distance heavy transport including aviation and shipping), and that look at ways to reduce the cost of renewable hydrogen production in the long-term. The program is open for expressions of interest until 8 December 2025.

Over the past 8 years, ARENA has invested more than AUD370m (US$240m) in 65 renewable hydrogen projects, as well as two projects under the first Hydrogen Headstart funding round.
