FRANCE'S HYDROGEN DOWN

FRANCE'S HYDROGEN DOWN

ENERDATA18 April 2025 - The French Ministry of Economy and Industry has unveiled its revised National Hydrogen Strategy, cutting its hydrogen from 6.5 GW to 4.5 GW by 2030, and from 10 GW to 8 GW by 2035, considering that the targets were originally planned in 2020, and that the low-carbon H2 market has taken longer to develop than expected. However, the country reaffirmed its commitment to a €4bn subsidy package for producers of low-carbon hydrogen (compared to H2 from fossil fuels) to support the commercialisation and industrialisation of early-stage hydrogen projects and the development of necessary regulatory frameworks and infrastructure.

Additionally, the country plans to reintroduce funding schemes focused on hydrogen R&D and issue new calls for projects to increase deployment of hydrogen-powered utility vehicles.

France’s hydrogen strategy has supported more than 150 hydrogen projects since the initial strategy in 2020.
