INDONESIA NEED OIL & GAS

ENERDATA - 18 April 2025 - The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has awarded five oil blocks and gas blocks offshore Indonesia. The ministry awarded the Gaea II and Gaea I blocks in West Papua to a consortium of eight companies including BP Exploration Indonesia, CNOOC South East Asia, Enquest Petroleum Production Malaysia, and ENEOS. The ministry reported that Gaea II has estimated resources of 8.5 Gboe, while Gaea I has resources of 9.6 Gboe.

In addition, the Binaiya Block in Maluku, with a potential of 6.7 Gboe, was awarded to PT Pertamina Hulu Energy and Petronas' PC North Mandura, as well as to Korea's SK Earthon. PC North Madura, SK Earthon were also awarded the Sepang Block offshore East Java, in a consortium with Japan's INPEX Corporation. Finally, Armada Etan was awarded the Kojo Block in the Makassar Strait.

In January 2025, the Indonesian Ministry of Energy announced plans to tender 60 oil and gas blocks in Indonesia by 2027, in order to increase oil lifting and support energy security in the country. The country aims for oil lifting to reach between 800 kb/d and 900 kb/d by 2029.
