SAUDI'S RENEWABLES FOR TURKEY 5 GW
ENERDATA - 06 February 2026 - Saudi Arabia and Türkiye have signed a strategic agreement to develop large-scale renewable energy power plant projects in Türkiye (Saudi Press Agency, 03/02/2026). The deal includes the development and implementation of solar power projects in Türkiye with a total installed capacity of up to 5 GW, to be executed in two phases:
- Phase One: Saudi Arabia will invest US$2bn to develop two solar power projects in Sivas and Karaman, with a combined capacity of 2 GW.
- Phase Two: An additional 3 GW of capacity will be developed according to the frameworks agreed upon by both parties.
The electricity generated will be purchased by a Turkish state-owned company for a 30-year period. The projects will also prioritise the use of local equipment and service providers wherever possible, according to the press release.
In 2024, Türkiye unveiled its 2035 roadmap for renewable energy, aiming to quadruple its wind and solar capacity to 120 GW by 2050. As of the end of 2024, the country had over 13 GW of installed solar capacity (representing 12 % of total installed capacity) and 12 GW of installed wind capacity (11 %) (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
