Poland on Monday defied an injunction by the European Union's top court that had ordered the immediate shut down of a major lignite mine in the border town of Turow.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ordered Poland to immediately stop lignite mining activities at the Turów open-pit mine near the Czech and German borders, following a lawsuit filed by Czechia over environmental concerns.

The two leaders are to hold broad talks on steps to further improve bilateral relations and to chair the first meeting of the Turkey-Libya High Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Westinghouse's work on the offer is financed by the US Trade and Development Agency. The works are to cost $10 million.

Turkey aims to produce 50% of its electricity from renewables by 2023 (up from 44% in 2019). Solar accounts for around 7% of Turkey’s installed capacity, with 6 GW at the end of 2019.

By 2024, the renewable capacity is expected to more than double from 1.8 GW to 4.3 GW (+139%).

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan joined the ceremony via videoconference. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez, ROSATOM Director General Alexey Likhachev and Akkuyu Nuclear JSC CEO Anastasia Zoteeva were present at the Akkuyu NPP site.

Hungary has four nuclear reactors generating about half of its electricity. In 2018, nuclear accounted for 49% of its electricity mix, natural gas for 23%, and coal for 15%. Poland's Energy Policy for 2040 is based on three pillars: a just transition; a zero-emission energy system; and good air quality. As part of this policy, Poland plans to build six nuclear units by 2043.
