Tokyo Gas and Japan's largest power generation company JERA said previously that they have signed new LNG supply agreements on the same terms as previous agreements. Sources said that new contracts were required due to the change of operator.

Japan's biggest city gas supplier Tokyo Gas Co Ltd has signed a long-term contract with a new Russian operator of Sakhalin-2 energy project to buy liquefied natural gas (LNG), a spokesperson for the Japanese company said on Tuesday.

KHNP is joining a pool of qualified participants in the construction works, including major Egyptian companies, he added.

India currently has 22 operating nuclear reactors, totalling some 6795 MWe of capacity. A further eight units, totalling just over 6000 MWe, are under construction, and the Indian government is committed to growing nuclear capacity as part of its massive infrastructure development programme.

The areas of potential cooperation include upstream and downstream businesses, engineering and construction, oilfield services, carbon capture and hydrogen.

Indeed, by 2025, companies in the steel, building materials, petrochemicals, non-ferrous metals, consumer goods, equipment manufacturing and electronics sectors with an annual revenue of CNY20m (US$2.9m) or more will have to cut their energy use by 13.5% from 2020 levels.
