Investors are bracing for weaker results from U.S. shale players in coming days as lower oil and natural gas prices and cost-cutting measures have weighed on third-quarter operations.

Vostok Oil, a joint project of Rosneft and Independent Petroleum Company (IPC), is set to include some oil fields that are already producing and others which have yet to start, including Rosneft’s Vankor group and IPC’s Payakhskoye field.

In June 2019, the Chinese government introduced a subsidy program that established new incentives for production of natural gas from tight formations and extended existing subsidies for production from shale and coalbed methane resources. This subsidy is scheduled to be in effect through 2023. In addition to the changes in the subsidy program, the government allowed foreign companies to operate independently in the country’s oil and natural gas upstream sector.

The brisk pace of U.S. production, now the world’s largest, in the past few years has been a key factor behind the relative weakness in oil prices. Output has slowed recently, however.

U.S. crude oil production reached a new all-time high of 12.4 million barrels per day (mb/d) – and U.S. natural gas liquids production sustained a record 4.8 mb/d – in September,

Industrial production fell back 0.4 percent in September after advancing 0.8 percent in August. For the third quarter, industrial production rose at an annual rate of 1.2 percent following declines of about 2 percent in both the first and the second quarters.

Crude oil production from the major US onshore regions is forecast to increase 58,000 b/d month-over-month in October from 8,913 to 8,971 thousand barrels/day, gas production to increase 319 million cubic feet/day from 83,693 to 84,012 million cubic feet/day .

Norway's preliminary production figures for September 2019 show an average daily production of 1 574 000 barrels of oil, NGL and condensate, which is a decrease of 86 000 barrels per day compared to August.

Nigeria's allocation was increased to 1.774 million barrels per day (bpd) from 1.685 million bpd at the last OPEC meeting in July,

U.S. coal production decreased 2.4% year over year to 756.2 million short tons (MMst). U.S. coal consumption decreased 4.0% from the 2017 level to 688.1 MMst. The electric power sector accounted for about 92.6% of the total U.S. coal consumed in 2018.
