Gas prices continued to soar Dec. 21 across the board with assessing TTF front-month at a record Eur180.30/MWh, up 23% on the days and also doubling since Dec. 6.

Brent was down 8 cents, or 0.1%, at $71.44 a barrel, WTI rose 5 cents, or 0.1%, to $68.66 a barrel.

Brent fell $2.14, or 2.9%, to $71.38 a barrel, WTI fell $2.45, or 3.5%, to $68.41 a barrel.

Brent fell 59 cents, or 0.8%, to $74.43 a barrel, WTI dropped 67 cents, or 0.9%, to $71.71 a barrel.

Brent rose by 62 cents, or 0.8%, to $74.50 a barrel, WTI gained by 65 cents, or 0.9%, to $71.52.

Brent fell 91 cents, or 1.2%, to $72.79 a barrel, WTI fell $1.05, or 1.5%, to $69.68 a barrel.

It is unusual for European LNG prices to surpass spot LNG prices in Asia, which relies on LNG imports much more than Europe, and especially in peak winter when demand from Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan is at its highest, supporting the typical Asian premium.

Derivatives linked to TTF, Europe’s wholesale gas price, soared as high as €131 per megawatt hour

Front-month gas futures fell 4.7 cents, or 1.2%, to settle at $3.747 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), their lowest close since Dec. 7.

Brent dropped 24 cents, or 0.32%, to $74.15 a barrel, WTI declined by 27 cents, or 0.38%, to $71.02.
