Uranium companies in Australia and Canada have announced purchases of physical uranium holdings.

CNESTEN is a collaborative centre to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) specialising in the use of nuclear techniques in the management of water resources, protection of the environment, and industrial applications.

Norway does not actually need offshore wind farms for power - nearly all its electricity comes from renewables already - but instead sees the sector as a means of helping its vast oil and gas industry secure a new, low-carbon business model for the future.

The consortium, which includes ITOCHU Corporation, Hitachi Zosen Inova, BESIX Group and Tech Group, will build and operate the AED4 billion ($1.1bn) project under a 35-year concession period with Dubai Municipality.

Brent was down 21 cents, or 0.3%, at $65.19 a barrel. WTI was up 19 cents, or 0.3%, at $61.75 a barrel.

Faltering oil prices in recent days after a weeks-long surge to around $70/b have many analysts forecasting that the OPEC+ group of producers may largely roll over their quotas for at least another month.

European stocks opened higher with the regional STOXX 600 index up 0.5%. Britain’s FTSE 100 rose 0.6%, Germany’s DAX and Italy’s FTSE MIB rose 0.5% each, and France’s CAC 40 rose 1%.

Committee chairman Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) highlighted the importance of maintaining the nation’s position as a global leader in nuclear energy and called for pushback against strategic efforts by China and Russia to supplant the United States in this role.

"The analyses did not reveal any science-based evidence that nuclear energy does more harm to human health or to the environment than other electricity production technologies already included in the Taxonomy as activities supporting climate change mitigation,"

The IAEA sees increasing work over the coming decades for decommissioning and associated waste management programmes. Many of the world's 443 nuclear power reactors currently in operation will phase out of service, while new reactors to be commissioned will need plans to fund their decommissioning.
