The UN has said its goal for the summit is to bring forward what organizers have called "concrete plans and strategies" to bring about carbon neutrality by 2050.

In a statement today at the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit in New York, nine multilateral development banks (MDBs) announced plans to increase the global climate action investments they support each year to US$ 175 billion by 2025.

The funds will invest 350 billion Danish crowns ($52 billion) in energy infrastructure, green stocks and bonds and energy efficient construction up to 2030, Danish pensions industry association Insurance and Pension Denmark said in a statement.

The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries on Monday said that oil and gas remained part of key solutions in combating climate change. Secretary-General of the organisation, Mr Mohammad Barkindo, stated this in Vienna while speaking against the backdrop of mass mobilisation of civil society campaigns against the oil industry.

The UK government must show it is serious about its legal obligations to tackle and prepare for climate change, the independent Committee on Climate Change (CCC) said today as it published its Reducing UK emissions - 2019 Progress Report to Parliament.

It results in more than 350 million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions every year and wastes a valuable resource, with harmful impacts to the environment from un-combusted methane and black carbon emissions.

IEA - Based on the latest available energy data, energy-related CO2 emissions in North America, the European Union and other advanced economies in Asia Pacific grew, as higher oil and gas use more than offset declining coal consumption. As a result, the IEA expects CO2 emissions in these economies to increase by around 0.5% in 2018.
