The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has awarded contracts worth £8.1m ($11m) from its Fusion Industry Programme to 14 organisations to develop shielding and fusion fuel technologies for future fusion power plants.

UK’s latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction, Allocation Round 7 (AR7), has allocated 6.2 GW of new renewable energy capacity (UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero statement, 10/02/2026).

This consent allows the project to build and operate up to 100 turbines with associated infrastructure. Underground onshore cables will transmit power from the landfall site near Anderby Marsh (north of Skegness) to a new substation at Surfleet Marsh in South Lincolnshire.
