Japan’s National Institute for Quantum Science and Technology (QST) has accelerated its timeline for a prototype fusion reactor.

World first policy: The UK will be the first country in the world to offer a market framework for fusion electricity to de-risk and incentivise private investment and enable fusion to power homes and businesses.

On 1 October, the German cabinet announced it had approved the federal government's action plan aimed at accelerating commercial fusion deployment in Germany.

UK-based Tokamak Energy has agreed an international strategic partnership with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) during the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh.

Global private investment in fusion has exceeded US $10 billion, reflecting growing confidence in the sector. Funding is flowing from sovereign wealth funds, major corporations and energy users, supporting a new generation of fusion developers and technologies.

Instead of using complex and expensive lasers or magnets to generate or maintain the conditions for fusion, FLF compresses the fuel inside a target using a projectile travelling at tremendous speed.

The fusion power plant will be located in Chelan County, Washington, on land leased from the Chelan County Public Utility District.

In the MoU, the signatories commit to pursuing the path to commercial fusion energy for Hesse and establishing the state as a leading location for cutting-edge research and the development of laser-based nuclear fusion.

The Sunbird concept is for the fusion-powered 'tugs' to be permanently based in space, able to dock on to spacecraft and propel them at high speed over vast distances. Pulsar Fusion says it foresees a compact nuclear fusion engine providing both thrust and electrical power for spacecraft, including as much as 2 MW of power on arrival at a destination.

The key factor in the success of an energy production process is the cost per unit of energy which can be expressed in $ per kilowatts or megawatts. Catalysed fusion based on known costs of components from existing supply chains promises to be the lowest cost of all commercially available energy sources.
