Saudi Arabia is one of the countries that Rosatom is ready to work with when the kingdom puts out tenders, including to provide the fuel or build the plants, Alexander Voronkov, CEO of Rosatom Middle East & North Africa, told at Rosatom Week being held at EXPO 2020 in Dubai.

The new strategic cooperation agreement was signed by Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachov and Framatome CEO Bernard Fontana during the World Nuclear Exhibition held in Paris this week.

Rosenergoatom (part of the electric power division of Rosatom State Corporation) and the international metallurgical company NLMK Group concluded an agreement on cooperation in the supply of low-carbon electricity.

Today Russia’s 11 nuclear plants operate 38 units with a total installed capacity of over 30.5GW. The share of nuclear generation in the total electricity generation in Russia is 20.6% as of mid-2021. In the European part of the country this rises to 30%, and in the North-West to 37%.

Vice-President of Rusatom Overseas for projects of research reactors and centres of nuclear science and technology (CNST) Dmitry Vysotsky and the head of the International Affairs Department of the LLC MCI MBIR Consortium Artem Goncharuk presented innovative projects at a session on "New projects in the field of research reactors".

The training programme for the El-Dabaa personnel will begin with by a Russian language course, which students will study for six months.

The MBIR is a 150 MWt, sodium-cooled fast reactor and will have a design life of up to 50 years.

Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported on 19 July that Egypt had suspended planned meetings with Rosatom, again citing tensions over GERD.

"Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Russian and Egyptian teams, the challenging task of documentation agreement was promptly accomplished, taking into account the technical requirements of the EPC Ccontract and adaptation to the site conditions," added Grigory Sosnin, ASE's director of the El-Dabaa NPP construction project.

“Climatic and environmental impact is an integral part of any business. For Rosatom, these parameters are important in the development of the product line - nuclear and wind energy as low-carbon types of generation, environmental projects, digital solutions for the development of the urban environment, water treatment technologies,” said Polina Lyon, Director of the Rosatom Sustainable Development Department.
