About 15% of Canada's electricity comes from nuclear power, with 17 reactors, mostly in Ontario, providing 12.7 GWe of power capacity. It also has plans to build both new large-scale nuclear capacity and small modular reactors. Japan has 33 operable reactors with a capacity of 31.7 GWe.

During a public ceremony at China’s Great Hall, Canada’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources and his Chinese counterpart signed a renewed pact that promises greater cooperation on clean and non-renewable energy.

India and Canada will work together to secure supply chains in critical minerals and clean energy, according to a joint statement, signaling a reset in bilateral ties amid trade tensions driven by U.S. policies.

The German energy group Uniper and the Canadian gas producer Tourmaline have signed a long-term natural gas supply agreement for 6.6 bcm over 8 years starting in November 2028.

While hydrogen is at the core of Europe’s plans to eventually wean itself off fossil fuels, there are currently few buyers for the gas as it’s expensive to produce and requires infrastructure investments to make its use more viable.

A key focus of the partnership will be on hydrogen isotope management within the fusion fuel cycle, safely removing, processing, and reinjecting fuel to the plasma in a continuous manner.

In June 2022, SaskPower selected the BWRX-300 as the technology to be used in its SMR development work for potential deployment in the mid-2030s after considering several SMR technologies. The company said it had identified two areas in the province of Saskatchewan – Estevan and Elbow as possible sites.

Over the next five years North America’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity to expand by 12.9 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) as Mexico and Canada place into service their first LNG export terminals and the United States adds to its 11.4 Bcf/d of existing LNG capacity.

Canada and the USA will “coordinate efforts to develop secure and reliable North American nuclear fuel supply chains and build broader partnerships with longstanding allies and partners, both of which will help to ensure access to low enriched uranium, including High-Assay Low Enriched Uranium”.
