The Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ 10 fast-growing members, with a combined $2.6 trillion economy, dire energy needs and rising military budgets, are a prime market for Russia’s top exports: hydrocarbons, energy technology and weapons.

Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina will seek partners to build a strategic petroleum reserve of about 25 million barrels to ensure energy security.

The Tangguh Expansion Project will also bring a positive contribution to Indonesia and the Papua Barat Province starting in 2016, supporting economic growth and providing 10,000 valuable jobs spread over the project period.

The Chinese, through a statement by the Foreign Ministry last Sunday, said the two countries “have overlapping claims for maritime rights and interest.”

The Indonesian government has proposed to the parliament revising down the country's 2016 crude oil production target by 2.4% to 810,000 b/d, from the initial target of 830,000 b/d, as some producers had reduced their output levels due to lower global prices,

Rosneft is betting that south Asia will be a fast-growing market for its oil, and is keen to increase its profits from the region by investing in downstream infrastructure such as refineries and petrol stations.

Indonesia's oil and gas company PT Pertamina seeks the possibility to develop oil and gas fields in Iran and import liquefied natural gas (LPG) from the Middle East country.

Pertamina seeks a 51% stake in the venture to build a crude-oil refinery and petrochemical plants in eastern Java, with Russian state-controlled oil major Rosneft taking the remainder, Pertamina executives and Indonesian officials said. The refinery will be capable of processing 320,000 barrels of oil a day, and the complex will require $13 billion to $14 billion in investment, they said.

Crude output from Cepu more than tripled throughout 2015 from around 40,000 bpd in 2014, hitting around 130,000 bpd in December when Exxon commenced operation of the project's central processing facility.
