The EU has agreed to sanctions against two officials from Turkey’s state petroleum company.

Turkey's total gas consumption decreased by 15.8% to approximately 3.44 bcm in November 2019, from around 4.09 bcm in November 2018.

Gazprom supplied its first billion cubic meters of gas via the TurkStream gas pipeline.

Hydrogen will be part of Turkey's short and long-term goals to ensure the security of energy supply, Dönmez said.

TurkStream, which is laid in the Black Sea, is a link between the gas transmission systems of Russia and Turkey. The gas pipeline has two strings with a combined throughput capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters. The first string will deliver gas to Turkey, while the second string is intended for gas transit to southern and southeastern Europe through Turkish territory.

Russia is poised to officially open its TurkStream natural gas pipeline on Wednesday, further diversifying export routes to Europe amid a backlash from the U.S.

In the wake of the global financial crisis, growth in Turkey became increasingly dependent on externally-funded credit and demand stimulus, and, as a result, Turkey’s economy began running above potential with a large current account deficit and high inflation.
