Nuclear provides the opportunity for a faster transition to a low-carbon energy future and supports the shift to a hydrogen economy

Both the companies will work together in areas of blue and green hydrogen and various clean energy initiatives, according to a statement.

To speed up greening of the emerging hydrogen economy, the IAEA last month launched an initiative to develop a roadmap for the commercial deployment of hydrogen production using nuclear energy.

A hydrogen production facility will be connected to the HTTR owned by JAEA to develop hydrogen production technology utilising the reactor’s high temperature heat.

Agreements were announced during the visit of Dr. Robert Habeck, German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, to the UAE. They build upon the longstanding Emirati-German Energy Partnership as well as the Ministerial Emirati-German Hydrogen Task Force that was inaugurated in November 2021.

Tim Holt highlighted the Middle East's role in providing fuels like green hydrogen to countries like Germany, where it would be an important step in its energy diversification, as it would benefit from taking hydrogen from countries in the world that have the right conditions at lower cost to produce it.

Kuwait also plans to develop a 2 GW wind and solar project, which will be tendered by the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects. Meanwhile, Iraq is also considering the strategic adoption of renewable energy as a way to wean itself off of Iranian imports of gas and power, its oil minister Ihsan Ismail told IPTC.

India also plans to simplify the authorisation process for green hydrogen production (including a single portal for all clearances and land provision) and to provide federal financial support to develop electrolysers.
