The current transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine is due to expire at the end of 2024. It came into effect at the start of 2020, and was brokered by the European Commission.

European and British wholesale gas prices rose on Tuesday as colder weather increased demand and the market remained nervous about winter supplies from Russia.

China, India, Japan, South Korea and the UK will join the US in releasing strategic oil stocks, the White House said, without giving further details.
