Japanese manufacturers that use thermal coal for their own power generation have more than a month's worth of stocks, but a few manufacturers have a high dependency on Russian supply, according to the documents.

The draft Power Master Plan VIII expects the installed power capacity in Vietnam to more than double between 2020 (around 70 GW) and 2030, when it should reach 146 GW.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade is finalizing the draft power plan VIII, with a target to develop 5,000 MW of offshore wind power by 2030 and about 40,000 MW by 2045.

Ca Voi Xanh, one of the largest gas fields discovered in Vietnam, also involves building a pipeline connecting the field to a gas processing plant and associated power and plants.

The Vietnamese government on Nov. 19 held a conference to discuss possible changes to its draft power development plan over 2021-2030 with a vision to 2045, called PDP8, which provides the road map for its power sector including an exhaustive list of proposed projects.

Wind account for around 1% of Vietnam’s installed capacity, with 600 MW (2020).

The draft Power Development Plan 8 (PDP 8) of Vietnam forecasts an installed capacity of 144 GW in 2030, with coal-fired power plants accounting for 31% of the country's installed capacity in 2030.

According to the National Steering Committee for Electricity Development, Vietnam’s wind capacity will reach 6 GW in 2025 and 10 GW in 2030 and solar capacity will grow to 14.4 GW in 2025 and 20 GW in 2030.

Vietnam has 600 MW of wind capacity, including 99 MW offshore, accounting for less than 1% of the country’s installed capacity (69 GW in 2020).
