NUCLEAR POWER IS A KEY
The use of nuclear power will need to increase to decarbonise electricity production, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said today at a side event during the United Nations COP25 climate summit in Madrid. Meeting sustainability and climate goals requires a significant use of nuclear energy, he said.

NUCLEAR POWER FOR CO2 CUTTING
A new report by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology examined various scenarios for the decarbonization of the nation’s electricity sector. The MIT researcher’s simulations showed that availability of nuclear powered generation would help reduce the needed carbon price by up to 67 percent (to less than $40 per ton) in meeting a 90-percent reduction target (below 2005 levels) by 2050.

RUSSIA'S NUCLEAR FOR IRAN STOPPED
This makes it technologically impossible for TVEL to be further engaged in works at the Fordow facility. Uranium enrichment and stable medical isotope production cannot be sustained in the same room. Air and equipment are exposed to UF6 leftovers, making the produced stable medical isotopes unsuitable for medical purposes.

TREBLING NUCLEAR POWER
Renewable energy sources alone are not capable of fully decarbonising the economy, but they can complement nuclear energy in achieving this goal. The nuclear industry, led by World Nuclear Association, has set the Harmony goal for nuclear energy to provide 25% of global electricity by 2050. This will require trebling nuclear generation from its present level.

DRAMATICALLY IMPORTANT: NUCLEAR POWER
"We need to replace 70-90% of carbon resources of energy by 2050 in order to avoid overheating the Earth," he said, adding that two-thirds of the world's population still relies on biomass. An alarming projection, he said, is that by 2050 African nations will be consuming as much energy per capita as they do now, but their population will have doubled to 1.4 billion. "This will have dramatic implications for healthcare, employment and migration in the future," he said. "Only nuclear power can stop this migration by helping to develop the region."
