The eastern Chinese coastal province of Zhejiang has approved the construction of a new 7 billion yuan ($1.10 billion) coal-fired power plant with 2 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity

The UK HPR1000 is the Hualong One design that General Nuclear Services (GNS) - a subsidiary of EDF and China General Nuclear (CGN) - proposes to use at a prospective new nuclear power plant in Bradwell, England.

State-run oil giant Rosneft signed a 10-year supply deal with China's CNPC for supplies of 100 million mt, or 200,821 b/d, of crude. Russia's Gazprom signed a 10 Bcm/year gas supply deal with CNPC which will see Gazprom's pipeline supplies to China reach 48 Bcm.

“This is already a second contract to be signed for Russian gas supplies to China, and it is indicative of the exceptionally strong mutual trust and partnership between our countries and companies. Our Chinese partners from CNPC have already seen for themselves that Gazprom is a reliable gas supplier,” said Alexey Miller.

The nuclear power plant, to be sited near Lima, about 100 kilometres north west of Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, will use China's Hualong One technology - the HPR1000 reactor,

China, the world's biggest greenhouse gases emitter and coal consumer, is expected to add 180 gigawatts (GW) of new power generation capacity from non-fossil fuel sources during 2022, driving total non-fossil fuel capacity to 1,300 GW, according to a report issued by the China Electricity Council (CEC) late on Thursday.
