Gazprom Gazoraspredeleniye, a company controlled by Gazprom, successfully completed the sale of 850,590,751 ordinary shares of Gazprom (3.59 per cent of the share capital).

Gazprom delivered to the country 12.7 billion cubic meters of gas, which was 2.8 per cent more than in the entire year of 2018, a record-breaking year in terms of Gazprom's exports to Austria.

The potential delay in Nord Stream 2 construction also undermines Russia's position in negotiating a new transit deal with Ukraine's Naftogaz. Ukraine transited some 87 Bcm of Russian gas to Europe in 2018 -- or some 44% of total Russian exports -- but those volumes are set to slump once the planned Nord Stream 2 and TurkStream gas pipelines come online.

Exxon’s shares have underperformed its major rivals’ in recent years. The disposals would help the company increase spending on new developments and appease investors unhappy with weak cash generation and oil output, which flatlined under Woods’ predecessor Rex Tillerson.

"Mozambique represents an increasingly important trading partner for Dubai and the UAE and this was an important platform to discuss how we can take our business relations to the next level," said Al Ghurair.

In a statement, Gazprom said it had sent a letter to Naftogaz -- signed by Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller -- to "extend the existing contract or to conclude a new gas transit agreement through Ukraine for a period of one year."

The auctions, to be aimed at paring back India’s coal imports, are intended to attract global miners such as Glencore PLC, BHP Group, Anglo American PLC and Peabody Energy Corp.

ConocoPhillips has been one of the better-performing energy stocks, having dropped 8% this year, compared with a key industry index, the SPDR S&P Oil & Gas Exploration & Production ETF (XOP.P), which has sunk about 22%.

Putin said Ukraine still had work to do to align its gas regulatory landscape with that of Europe, questioning whether Kiev would be able to achieve this in time. "That is not up to us," he said. "Therefore, the risk of termination of transit exists."
